DISCOVER THE HYDROFRUIT METHOD DEVELOPED BY VIVISA

Cultivation of Fruit Trees in Hydroponics

Innovation for sustainable and circular fruit growing, which halts soil degradation and optimizes water and input management.
2030 AGENDA OBJECTIVE

Why was Hydrofruit born?

Growing demand for food

By 2050, the world population is estimated to be 9.7 billion, which implies the need to increase food production by 70%.

Impact of climate change

Climate change is altering weather patterns, negatively affecting agricultural production. Spain faces a possible loss of more than 80% of its arable land by 2100.

Soil and water resources

Traditional agriculture exerts great pressure on natural resources, especially water. The project seeks solutions to decrease soil degradation and the impact of fertilizers on aquifers.

The HYDROFRUIT method developed by VIVISA seeks to implement an innovative and sustainable hydroponic cultivation system for kiwi and other fruit production. The system focuses on minimizing environmental impact and maximizing production.

The project has been installed since 2018 in a pilot plantation at the AREEIRO PHYTOPATHOLOGICAL STATION, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. The system stands out for its simplicity and economy in materials, which facilitates its application in extensive plantations. The low maintenance cost, thanks to its efficiency in water use, fertilizers, and root pruning, makes it a sustainable and economically viable option for farmers.

3 MAIN AXES OF HYDROFRUIT

Water recirculation

Irrigation water is collected, purified with ozone and reused, saving up to 70% of water.

Reduction of fertilizers

The system optimizes the application of fertilizers, reducing their use by up to 30%.

Organic cultivation

It doesn't pollute because the roots and fertilizers never come into contact with the soil.

Intelligent root pruning

Optimizes root growth for better nutrient absorption.

Intelligent root pruning

Optimizes root growth for better nutrient absorption.

EXPECTED BENEFITS

Water savings of up to 70%.

Higher crop yields and better fruit quality.

Healthier food.

Cultivate in areas with poorer soil.

Fertilizer reduction up to 30%.

Elimination of soil impact.

Real-time crop control.

More employment and development in the agricultural sector.

HYDROPFRUIT is presented as a viable and sustainable alternative for the agriculture of the future.

The collaboration with KIWI ATLÁNTICO S.L., NOVALKIWI S.L. and the ESTACIÓN FITOPATOLÓGICA DE AREEIRO ensures the technical, economic, and environmental viability of the project.
